Power in You Series - Personal Safety, Confidence
and Empowerment for Girls and Women
3 Week Series for Middle School Girls - Feb. 4, 11, 18, 3:30 - 5:00 pm
An assertiveness and empowerment class for middle school girls is being sponsored by Francine Delany New School in West Asheville. This series will include experiential activities to help participants connect with their core essence, practice groundedness, make wise choices and set strong boundaries. In addition, participants will learn how to find and harness their inner power, trust their intuition, be assertive and use their voice.
My intent is always to teach to to empower, not to frighten. That being said, this class is about assertiveness and personal power which naturally invites discussion from the group about why and when you may want or need these skills. Younger participants may center such discussions around being assertive with their peers, standing their ground, knowing their self worth and speaking up for themselves. However, it's not uncommon for the issue of assault to come up in discussion. Parents, please consider the age of your daughter and her ability to digest this possible discussion. If this happens, I intend to address it with solid facts and to let participants know that this information is a healthy part of awareness - that just knowing statistics and building and practicing the tools offered can significantly reduce risk of being targeted for such crimes. Participants of this training series will be equipped with tools and information that will help them know how to show up with strength, become conscious of how they walk, make wise choices and listen to that intuitive voice within. This class emphasizes that we needn't walk in fear; if we know ourselves, listen to our inner wisdom and set clear boundaries, we can walk with ease and confidence in the world.
"If you work with young people or adults who are seeking learn assertiveness, self protection, or simply wish to feel more empowered in their lives, I highly suggest you schedule an event with Anne. We certainly plan to work with her again soon." ~ Diane Delafield, Director, Under One Sky Foundation
KidPower Parent-Child Workshop
For Parents and Their 7 - 10 Year-Old Child
Plans are in the works to bring a KidPower workshop to Asheville late winter/early spring 2016. KidPower is an international non-profit devoted to keeping children safe.
This Parent/Child Workshop will be a 2-hour program for children together with their parents/caregivers. In the workshop, adults and their children learn and practice age-appropriate everyday People Safety skills, including: walking with awareness, on-line safety, keeping themselves safe from hurtful words, learning to set boundaries on touch and teasing and how to get help from busy adults.
KidPower workshops emphasize experiential, success-based learning, because research strongly indicates that people who practice skills are more likely to use them effectively when in uncomfortable or threatening situations. People learn more by doing than by talking about doing. For this reason, KidPower ensures that their students successfully practice each idea presented. This experience builds confidence and competence and develops skills in our students’ bodies as well as in their minds. Skills are taught in a way that is not scary or overwhelming, but that is positive and respects people’s learning process.
Space will be limited. If you're interested, please contact Anne Heck.
Mom, thank you for making us come to Kidpower,
this is something I would want to volunteer for, it was AWESOME!

Gather the Women
Meets Weekly ~ Monday Evenings, 7 - 9 pm
Women from varied backgrounds and places are experiencing the call to reclaim their feminine nature, to slow themselves and listen, to awaken to their authentic selves and move in the world from their unique inspired and purposeful place of knowing.
Gather the Women offers a sacred space for women of all ages to gather and honor themselves. In our busy lives, it's often challenging to find time to be present with ourselves. Gifting yourself with this time and space allows you to come into balance with yourself and to be witnessed in your authenticity by a supportive circle of women.
Participants are invited to bring something to place on our centerpiece. Gather the women meets Mondays from 7 - 9 pm at Center for Art and Spirit in West Asheville. Space is limited; please Contact Anne (or 665-8316) to reserve your place in circle and receive details on meeting place. All are welcome.
Journey to the Heart is an intimate gathering for those committed to connecting to their heart space. This is for you if you'd like to make a regular practice of connecting with your authentic needs and desires within the safety and with support of a reflective gathering of intentional women. This is for the brave of heart who are curious to take a look inward.
Journey to the Heart is for you if you wish to:
- increase your clarity and self-awareness and receive guidance towards your own knowing.
- experience greater balance in your spiritual and physical life.
- have a supportive community witness your Authentic Self, allowing you to step more fully into your own power.
- do deep, personal work with the support and safety of a reflective group of intentional women.
The benefits of Journey to the Heart are:
- learning to listen to your inner guidance.
- gathering tools and abilities to care for your deeper needs.
- nourishment of your inner life.
- increasingly trusting yourself.
- having a space to share deeply.
- encouragement of your Authentic Self.
Inner growth and awareness happen when we create the right environment for it: time, safe space, and loving guidance. I ask for your commitment to be fully present for yourself and others when you come into community; the amount of attention and intention that you devote to this series will determine what you gain from it.
This Asheville Women's Series runs for 11 weeks; the next dates will be announced soon. Space is limited, so contact me soon if you're interested in reserving your spot.
