My grandmother, Virginia Rose Reeder, inspired me to write. She kept a daily journal which she stored in the top drawer of her writing desk. I developed a curiosity about this at a young age and for my 9th birthday my grandma gifted me with a brown faux-leather bound book ~ my first diary.
I kept a diary throughout my childhood and through most of college and have journaled when inspired since that time. Writing has offered me a path to seeing deeper into my life experience; it has been an emotional outlet and a clear reflection as well as a creative space. I've shared many of my writings openly and am grateful to know that this has offered inspiration to others.
Create Light is a book of poetry - writings inspired in the dark hours of morning that emerged in 2004-5. Many of these pieces still touch my heart.

In 2004, I was asked by Prince Williams County Court System to write a Victim Impact Statement as they had just positively identified the man who had raped me 14 years after the crime. I published my statement in WNC-Woman just before presenting it in person in the presence of my assailant. Read this article here.
