On Sunday, July 30 I spoke at the Creative Thought Center in Waynesville, NC. My good friend Frank Kish had asked me over a month ago to be a part of their service. Frank and I have been in training for the past 3 years together to become Religious Science Practitioners and I was honored to get to know his spiritual community a little better and to share in the fun and fellowship with them.
My talk was entitled "It's Magic" and I spoke of the different tools which we can utilize to help us keep in that magical place of using our thoughts to create our reality. What I learned from this experience is a new depth to the magic that exists for me and for us. I had spent quite a bit of time thinking about what I wanted to say and writing notes to use with my talk. With a little less than a week before speaking, I realized that I was felt a little incongruent in what I was saying, which was: I planned to address the idea of allowing Spirit to flow in and as us and to trust that we are sourced in every moment -- yet I was relying on my notes which would certainly not keep me entirely present to the moment and to the powerful Spiritual creativity that was available to me.
So, on Friday - 2 days before my talk - I threw away my notes. Yikes! I was feeling a bit unbalanced as I was admittedly fearful of what would happen, but also knowing that if I got stuck and didn't know what to say, I could just get quiet and listen to Spirit.
On Sunday, I drove to Waynesville early to sit and meditate. The local library was just down the street (on Joy Lane) from the Center and the parking area was surrounded by old oak trees - perfect. I rolled down my car window to breathe in the fresh morning air. Within seconds, a song sparrow came and sat on my rear view mirror and sang me a song -- magic, I thought.
I arrived at the Center relaxed and in joy. The greatest gift for me was being entirely present to the moment and to the magic available there. Speaking came easily and was full of spontaneity and fun. If you'd like to listen to this talk, click on the link below --
